ESG Corporation collaborated with Auriga to create a solution that streamlines the process and reduces errors of obtaining the necessary air permits for industries. The designed solution is a user friendly platform with effort saving features.

Overview

Industries operating in Texas,USA have to get air permits in order to comply with ESG regulations. ESG is a framework that measures a company’s environmental, social, and governance performance. The environmental aspect is especially important as it indicates how a company reduces its negative impact on the environment. However, obtaining an air permit can be a complex process for businesses. To make this process easier and faster, Siddharth Rajmohan, a former Managing Partner at ERM and an ESG consulting expert, partnered with Auriga IT to develop Permit Vault, a solution that simplifies and streamlines the process of generating air permits.

Challenges

Air permits are not a one-time task, but a recurring requirement that industries have to fulfill with the help of air consultants. They have to document a lot of information about their assets and pollutants and submit it to government agencies. The process is manual and prone to errors, and it can take weeks to complete. For business owners who operate multiple plants or sites, this is a major challenge that requires careful and accurate work to avoid legal troubles as per the local regulations. However, they also face some additional difficulties.

Prone to Errors and Manual Work- Spreadsheets used by consultants and air specialists were error-prone and require timely and monitored execution of batch jobs.
Time Consuming- Consultants have to enter information for each piece of equipment in a factory to generate air permits. For example, they need to fill out fields or forms for every engine or turbine they have, making the process long and tedious
Security- The consultants have to handle data from different customers and industries, therefore there is a need for a system that can keep the data private and not share it with other customers.
Bad User Experience- Existing ESG report tools had inferior UI/UX, making it hard for consultants and users to generate air permits smoothly.

Solution

PermitVault collaborated with Auriga IT to conceptualize and create an advanced platform specifically designed to streamline the intricate processes of Environmental Permitting within the Oil and Gas sector. Drawing upon its extensive expertise in product design, engineering excellence, and comprehensive sustainability insights, Auriga skillfully brought this revolutionary product to life.

Research and Ideation

After thoroughly analyzing the challenges, we conducted research and successfully identified two user personas. Subsequently, we crafted a taskflow and created a visual guide, which served as the cornerstone for our visual designs.

Implementation

Personalized Dashboard and Reporting- We designed a personalized dashboard for air permit consultants to manage all their permits in one place, save their progress, attach supporting documents, and download and view reports.
Flexibility- The system is designed for the Texas Oil and Gas industry, but it can adapt to different government regulations and geographical norms. Our system can handle various constraints based on location.
Available Permits & Cloning– Based on the input data, our system shows all the permits that a site is eligible for. Clone feature allowed companies and consultants to easily apply for renewal or new permits for industries with similar setups.
Share and Collaboration Mode– We added this feature so that the consultants, admins, and users can collaborate on multiple sites with multiple stakeholders, thus boosting productivity.
Checkout Experience- Users can pick a plan (DIY, Assisted, Full Support) and pay for many sites. They can change payment modes anytime. For example, a user can switch from DIY to Assisted after 2 sites.

Project Outcomes

Generate Permit Application Easily- Permit vault eased the process of generating Environment permit applications for consultant and allowed them & business to manage all their sites on a single dashboard
Minimized Cost & Time- Permit Vault helped consultants/ businesses reduce the manual and repetitive burden of ESG reporting by automating most steps.

Error-Free Report Generation- With automation at its core, the need for human intervention was reduced & the chances of errors were reduced to 0%.
