Trek and Entrepreneurship

Recently, It has been a growing realization that I am growing older – I know we all are but just at the cusp when we start realising that joint pains are a real thing especially when we overexert and we can’t have infinite energy now. Not a great feeling but better to start accepting and taking care than ignoring it. So, I decided to check mark one of my bucket list item before it gets into a red zone – to take a trek in the Himalayas. Thanks to Nilay and Mansi for initiating it which I casually signed up for just comforted by the fact that its a beginner level trek – the Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek. It took me 10 attempts to get that name right, so lets just say I didn’t know what I signed up for – neither the name nor the experience.

Fast forward, comes the day when we 5 out of 7 friends who registered assembled in Rishikesh. One dropped out due to a meeting and another one – well lets just say that one of a friend didn’t help his cause to come, you know whom I am talking about Garima – right? Anyways this blog is about my take aways from the trek, here are a few pointers:

  • It takes that tiny extra effort and will to sign up for it.
  • It’s a team thing – the success, the enjoyment and the speed all will depend on the team.
  • Learning from the experienced will make the journey smoother.
  • You got to be slow and steady with a rhythm to get farther and faster.
  • Resource Management is an important aspect for the success and a comfortable journey.
  • There will be both ups and downs in the journey and both will require different skillsets to manoeuvre.
  • There needs to be inner peace and cognizance with yourself to go long.
  • At times making your own way is not bad, but do not ignore the signs and the direction.
  • Your breath should match your footsteps.
  • Don’t look too far and cover small steps but regularly.
  • There will be challenges when it would seem like breaking up, rest if you must but don’t QUIT.
  • Coexistence with Nature and surroundings is important.
  • Enjoy the path: milestones are also beautiful. Take breaks – recharge and enjoy the moments.
  • The universe conspires – one to make it happen and also to ensure it’s a beautiful experience.
  • Last but not the least, if you will keep walking – you will reach the top.

Isn’t all of it as applicable for entrepreneurship as well. Is it worth it or not – well it depends on how adventurous you are, all I can say is when you are high, there is a different high! 🙂
